Connecting Software, a company rooted in Madeira, has developed technology that enables the authenticity of digital information to be verified. It is called Truth Enforcer and, using a hash function, creates a ‘fingerprint’ of your digital information, including invoices, contracts, spreadsheets, reports, images and videos.

“We send this hash to the blockchain. You can see if it [the information] has been tampered with. It sounds more complicated than it is,” says Thomas Berndorfer, CEO of Connecting Software.

The owner of the Madeira-based company points out that this type of technology is even more valuable given that, in the era of artificial intelligence, “any kind of information can be easily manipulated”.

And the technology has applications in a wide range of areas, from school tests to laboratory results, to the research that ultimately leads to the creation of a patent.

“The software provides proof of authenticity. It’s an innovative development, a technological breakthrough. It’s based on blockchain technology; blockchain instils trust, and blockchain cannot be tampered with. You can forge all sorts of things, but you cannot forge the blockchain,” he states.

Thomas Berndorfer notes that the market for this type of technology “is huge”, adding: “How many information systems are there in companies?”, he asks. “Any information produced must be proven to be genuine and unaltered. And when people are seeking authenticity at a time when reality can be easily fabricated, then we have a huge market,” he emphasizes.

The CEO cites the pharmaceutical industry as an example. “The sector must provide evidence of all its experiments and test results. And that can be proven,” he explains.

And in this market, Connecting Software has its competitive advantages. “We can produce millions of seals in minutes, and it can cost just a few pence. And that’s the big difference compared to the competition.”

And this technology is protected by seven patents in the United States and more than three patents in Europe.
