Connecting Software evolves towards cybersecurity and attracts the public sector

Technology: The company intends to acquire a larger space and aims to grow from 30 to 50 people over the next two years.
Thomas Berndorfer, CEO of Connecting Software, shared with Económico Madeira that the tech company based in the Autonomous Region of Madeira has exploited a market gap in cybersecurity to grow in this field, attracting the public sector thanks to its high level of expertise. The company is pursuing a larger office space to accommodate their planned expansion from 30 to 50 employees over the next two years.
Cybersecurity is not a new field for Connecting Software, as it has been exploring this area for at least seven years. However, the company has recently gained traction, driven by growing customer demand, with clients increasingly concerned about protecting their data and processes—some of which considered sensitive—at a high level.
The company's CEO points out that the vast majority (75%) of Connecting Software's products have some correlation with or fall within this area.
Thomas Berndorfer emphasizes that the market "does not have" middleware specialized in security, an area that is sought after by various types of economic activity, such as the military, public, energy, finance, and automation sectors.
Middleware serves as a kind of bridge or connection between different applications, allowing data to flow and thereby making life easier for users.
The company's CEO highlights that there has been a "high demand" for products that address security needs and that there is a market of customers with "significant needs" in cybersecurity.
"We have many more clients for whom this topic is sensitive," reinforces Thomas Berndorfer.
In this regard, Connecting Software has managed to adapt to these new demands, and as a result, has a Cybersecurity Officer on its team, with a total of two people in the organization responsible for making their product offerings in this area increasingly secure.
This expertise has opened doors for the company to the public sector.
The company's CEO points out that Connecting Software has the certification to meet the needs of the public sector and emphasizes that a high level of certification is required to access these types of contracts. "At the end of the day, it is trust and credibility. We have developed this trust in this sector [cybersecurity]," says Thomas Berndorfer.
Connecting Software moved its IT infrastructure from Slovakia to Madeira due to the proximity of war, considering that Slovakia borders Ukraine, in a process that was completed last year.
