Adam Maurer, COO, speaks to Redmond magazine about mass SharePoint hack
Connecting Software COO, Adam Maurer spoke to Redmond Magazine about the significant SharePoint hack that occurred over the weekend, arguing that it serves as a reminder of the importance of secure, zero-trust server architecture.
He highlighted the importance of data diodes hardware technology in server spaces that enforces one-way communication between critical networks and the broader network.
“If they had been used in this instance, it could have prevented key sensitive information from being exfiltrated through the network, given that the SharePoint server itself would have had no direct network connection to external untrusted networks such as the internet.”
He went on to add that while these solutions are not perfect on their own, they would have reduced the ability of hackers to move around high-security networks unimpeded. Adam concluded that:
“Governments and other organizations with highly secure networks must see this latest attack as a positive sign to consider physical measures like data diodes and understand the risks of servers containing important data facing the internet”
